You may have heard the term “cosmetic dentistry”, but may not know what services are included under the cosmetic dentistry umbrella.
Cosmetic dentistry is generally defined as any service that improves the look of your teeth. Cosmetic dentistry services include bonding or dental veneers, tooth replacement (including implant dentistry), orthodontics (like Invisalign), teeth whitening, and more.
While the appearance of your teeth is the focus, the benefits of cosmetic dentistry go beyond face value.
Bonding or Dental Veneers
While bonding and dental veneers are considered cosmetic dentistry, they are also used to fix problems with your teeth. The procedures are often recommended to fix more visible front teeth to hide fillings, cracks, or imperfections in your teeth and improve the colour of your teeth. In addition, dental veneers can make your smile look better by changing the shape or spacing of your teeth.
- Dental veneers are thin shells of porcelain or resin that are applied to the front of your teeth to either protect and hide a repaired cavity, fill in a gap between teeth, or simply fix a discoloured tooth or teeth.
- Bonding is often used to make minor tooth repairs. With bonding, a thin layer of a composite resin material is placed on your teeth. The dentist then uses a special light to harden the resin. Bonding is a minimally-invasive, and relatively quick way to repair chips or minor cracks, or improve the colour of your teeth.

Tooth Replacement – Implant Dentistry and Crown and Bridge
Dental implants replace missing roots and support artificial replacement teeth. The artificial teeth look and feel like natural teeth. During implant dentistry, an artificial root made of titanium metal (the dental implant) is inserted into your jawbone. An artificial replacement tooth is then attached to the implant.
While some consider dental implants to be purely cosmetic, it may also be important to fill the space left behind by a missing tooth in order to stop your remaining teeth from shifting and destroying your bite. A crown and bridge is another common procedure to replace a gap caused by missing teeth.

Orthodontics & Invisalign
Orthodontics, like braces and Invisalign clear aligners, straighten teeth, close gaps between teeth, and provide a straighter smile. They can also improve your bite, making it easier to chew or clean your teeth, and even ease jaw pain.
While in the past many associated braces with teenagers, with the advent of Invisalign clear aligners, more adults are choosing to straighten their teeth.

Teeth whitening is one of the few truly cosmetic dental procedures. Whiter teeth aren’t necessarily healthier teeth. But many people truly want whiter teeth. They want to feel more confident when meeting new people, to look good in Zoom meetings, and to flash their smile proudly.
Gain Confidence With a Great Looking Smile
A great smile doesn’t just show you’re happy. There are a lot of positive psychological benefits of smiling and laughter. Many patients are embarrassed by gaps in their teeth, broken teeth, discolored teeth, or cavities. Cosmetic dentistry helps them put their best selves forward and laugh whole-heartedly, enjoying life to its fullest.
